  1. SCIAMACHY

  2. CO2 Satellite data: Current results and future plans Joanne Skidmore, Sander Houweling, Wouter Hartmann, Ilse Aben Space Research Organization Netherlands

  3. - Ice layer growth on channels 7 & 8 (not 6!) - Problems with data distribution - Problems with data processors • Recently, good progress  First results & interpretation . . . Status of Sciamachy CO2 retrieval • Note: Sciamachy is not a CO2 dedicated instrument ! • Retrieval at 1.6 m (like OCO but less spectral resolution) • Slow start due to a number of complications:

  4. Observed monthly mean CO2March 2003

  5. Observed monthly mean CO2August 2003

  6. : Max. plausible range Observed seasonal cycle – 2003 30-60 N 0-30 N 0-30 S

  7. Comparison: Scia CO2 & TOMS AI July October

  8. Next steps • Recurring months of data (reproducibility seems high!) • Retrieval issues (e.g. aerosol profiles – MISR data, sensitivity to T) • Correlation with other tracers (CH4, O2) • Collaboration with TransCom colleagues ??
