Objective examination1
Objective examination

  • Has two main components namely:

    • observations

    • Physical examination and tests

  • Infection control measures are always critical when working with children.

  • Need to structure physical observation and examination based on what you asked and what you see

  • Find a way that works for you –structure helps

  • Explain caregiver/child what examining and why.

Feedback
Feedback

  • If you feel competent and comfortable enough you may provide feedback during your assessment itself

  • Remember to provide caregiver/child feedback following your examination as to what you found

  • Give an indication of your plan regarding PT intervention, when will it start, frequency etc.

  • Give advice where indicated .

No need to run scared when having to assess a child.

Use family centred care principles

Structure & practice will make perfect....in time
