  2. Vocabulary • Write down the definitions for the following terms: • Beckoning - Intact • Jeopardize - Keening • Radiant Use each term in a sentence of it’s own.

  3. Prediction • The following are quotations from the short story we are about to read. Place the quotations in the order you think they will appear in the story and then explain in a few sentences what you think the story will be about. • “He’s an irresponsible bum.” • I can still hear the fight • “You owe them $200?” • We’d have supper together • “Take the money….” • The teapot was right where it belonged. • “I would never steal from your mother.”

  4. Reading • Read through the short story individually • Summarize the story in one (properly formatted) paragraph.

  5. After Reading • Complete the chart in on your handout that outlines the pros and cons for Ashleigh stealing the money. • Use the planner attached to write an opinion piece that expresses your opinion on what Ashleigh should do.

  6. Success Criteria for Opinion Piece • Written in present tense. • Presents ONE side of the argument. • Has at least three reasons to support opinion. • Has a quotation for each reason that supports the opinion. • Has 5 paragraphs (intro, 3 body paragraphs and a conclusion). • Proper paragraph format. • Proper spelling and grammar.
