  1. Steps to take While Designing and Implementing Learning Experiences 1. Design the learning experiences for students based on the information gathered from those pre-assessments; your knowledge of your students; and your expertise with the curriculum, cognitive theory, and students at this stage of human development. 2. Run a mental tape of each step in the lesson sequence to make sure that the process makes sense for your diverse group of students and will help the lesson run smoothly. 3. Review your plans with a colleague. 4. Obtain/create materials needed for the lesson. 5. Conduct the lesson. 6. Adjust formative and summative assessments and objectives as necessary based on observation and data collected while teaching the lessons.

  2. Design Learning Experiences Based on Information Gathered • Brainstorm strategies or learning experiences • Write down any idea that comes to mind • Include assessments in this list • Make sure experiences match with objectives • Consult resources to get ideas • May not use all strategies, having a bank of ideas makes differentiating easier “off the cuff” • Make sure strategies meet the needs of all children • You may need to create a list of activities with certain students in mind – you can refer to them if needed throughout the unit • Page 7 & 8 of Unit Writing Template

  3. Plan Sponge Activities • Find activities related to your KUD that students can do when they have completed activities • Have a way to organize these activities so students know where they are located and when they should use them • Page 9 of Unit Writing Template

  4. Run Mental Tape • Organize your thoughts by writing a day-by-day plan thinking about the materials you will need to collect and the days where grouping will be needed • Run your plan by a colleague • Page 10 & 11 of Unit Writing Template

  5. Find and Gather Materials • Make a list of materials you will need to gather to make the lessons run smoothly • Find materials and prepare those materials for each day of the unit • Page 11 of Unit Writing Template

  6. We finally get to teach? • TEACH! • Look for areas where students are not responding or misunderstanding and adjust as needed

  7. Adjusting Assessments/Reflecting • Adjust assessments and objectives based on observations and data gained while teaching • Reflect on what worked and what did not • Make adjustments to strategies and assessments
