  2. Region Värmland is Värmland’s residents’ organisation for regional development, growth issues, culture and adult education.

Region Värmland is formed jointly by the county´s 16 municipalities and the County Council • 2001: Municipal association • 2007: Collaborative body • Took over responsibility and authority from the county administrative board • Took over institutes of adult education from the county council • 2008: Took over responsibility for tourism-related matters

  4. Our undertaking To establish conditions for regional development... …that lead to growth in Värmland. Growth that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable!

The assignment includes: Formulating, developing and following up on regional development and growth programmes Making decisions on State and regional funds for regional development and growth Drawing up a county transport plan Preparing and co-financing cases for the EU’s structural funds Reporting to the government

  6. The regional development programme Värmland is flourishing – and knows no bounds Värmland’s vision for 2020. Almost 2,000 people in many organisations and collaborative groups have been involved in this work.

Activities include: Regional Resource Centre for Dance Regional Energy Agency Regional Resource Centre for Film Värmland County Library Regional Media Centre Regional Handicraft Centre Värmland Archives Visit Värmland Member Support Ingesund´s Folk High School Music and entrepreneurship Klarälvdalen´s Folk High School Game, nature conservation, rural affairs Kristinehamn´s Folk High School Groups with special needs Kyrkerud´s Folk High School Aesthetic profile Molkom´s Folk High School Media, keep-fit activities

An organisation under political control Tomas Riste (Social Democrats) Catarina Segersten Larsson (Moderates) Authorities responsible: 16 municipalities and Värmland County Council Regional Assembly with 49 members Regional Council with 13 Värmland politicians Executive Committee with five members Two full-time Regional Commissioners:

  12. Financing Budget approx. SEK 320 million per annum The main financier is the county council Other financiers are Värmland’s municipalities, the Swedish State and the EU

  13. Shifting up regional funding The EU Structural Funds are among the most important financial instruments for stimulating regional growth. The Structural Funds give some extra power and resources to be able to carry through important projects. Many actors participating in the implementation of EU projects lead to an increase of cooperation in Värmland. The Structural Funds contribute to a certain cohesion between the regional policy of EU and our priorities.
