Administration • Much DOE reading/reference on D2L Content • Thursday, 4/28 = Optional class • Catapult Experiment write-up due May 1 • Extra Credit Opportunity on May 3 – See D2L News • Peer Evaluations due May 9 • Located under first unit, D2L Content • Used to recognize exceptional team members • Also to identify members who need significant improvement as a team member • Members who contributed in the “normal” range don’t need to be included

  3. Today’s Agenda • Brief review of Catapult Experiment • Team time to conduct Catapult trials

  4. Catapult Tips A • Factor A = Placement of the catapult stop • Factor B = Height of the rubber band support • Factor C = Location of the eye-bolt B C

  7. Catapult Tips Use a marker of some kind and the same measure when recording each launch distance

  8. Catapult Spreadsheet Model Purposes of the spreadsheet model: 1. To provide the team with catapult settings for each launch in a random order. 2. To easily enter and track successive range data into the spreadsheet as the experiment progresses. 3. To automatically calculate the prediction equation for projectile range. 4. To enter three new measured projectile ranges based on three replicates of a new combination of factors that is somewhere within the design space. 5. To automatically calculate the % error in prediction using the average of the three test replicate measurements at the new setting.

  9. Catapult Write-Up • Utilize principles of excellent technical writing • Report should contain a cover page (title, date, team member names, optional photo or graphic) • Maximum length of four pages, not including cover and Excel prediction model • Don’t forget to include your catapult number • Submit report to D2L drop box by May 1

  10. Conclusion • Thursday, 4/28: Optional class for Catapult Project • Classroom will be open and you can work here, either individually or with your team • No Horner OH today or Thursday – see me after class today, or during Thursday’s optional class, or email me to meet • Remainder of today = time to work on Catapults!
