  1. What is Plagiarism? Warren Toomey

  2. Definition of Plagiarism • Wikipedia defines plagiarism as: • the wrongful appropriation and purloining and • publication of another author's language, thoughts, • ideas, or expressions, and the representation of • them as one's own original work • Note that I told you where I got this information from • This is called referencing. When doing written • assessment, you may be permitted to reference • other people's work

  3. In Your Own Words • The GCIT assessment submission sheet says: • No part of this assessment has been copied from • any other person's work • No part of this assessment has been written for me • This means that every assessment that you submit must • be your own work and it must be in your own words • It also says: If any of the above is false, it will be • regarded as misconduct and will be subject to • disciplinary action under Section 17.5 of the Student • Rules

  4. AQF Diploma Level • Graduates at this level will have specialised knowledge • and skills for skilled/paraprofessional work and/or • further learning • Graduates at this level will have technical and • theoretical knowledge in a specific area or a broad field • of work and learning • Graduates at this level will have a broad range of • cognitive, technical and communication skills to select • and apply methods and technologies to: analyse • information to complete a range of activities • Graduates at this level will apply knowledge and skills to • demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined • responsibility

  5. Virtualisation Research Assessment • I've only marked a few assignments so far, but nearly • every single word has been copied from the Web • Examples • Mandeep, Sukwinder • A strategic danger businesses face when migrating • their apps and data to the cloud is cloud lock-in. • Cloud lock-in is where you tie your applications • tightly to one cloud vendor, making it difficult to • change. At the core of AWS are their IaaS • offerings: EC2, S3 and EBS. These services • essentially let you deploy servers and storage in the • AWS cloud to run your app.

  6. Examples • Vatan & Sandeep • With virtualization, you can also run multiple types of • applications and even run different operating systems • for those applications on the same physical hardware • When you use virtualization, management, • administration and all the attendant requirements of • managing your own infrastructure remain a • direct cost of your IT operation.

  7. Examples • Simranjit and Manjeet • The most important path of security by cloud is • authentication which protect data in internet • protocols. Authentication mechanisms can also • support proxy authorization, a facility allowing one • user to assume identity of another user. Another way • is anti-malware/spyware. They protect email server • from junk mails and hacker. Theasesecurity services • are often include anty-virus, intrusion detection, and • security event management.

  8. Examples • Harpinder and Harjot • The Build Your Private Cloud Infrastructure Design • Guide provides you with the information that you • need to make informed decisions about the storage, • network and compute design decision points to build • a cloud infrastructure that meets the requirements • of your organization. This guide provides information • that you can use to assess Windows Server 2012 • platform technologies that enable a cloud-based • infrastructure.

  9. Examples • I wrote a computer application to find copied material • in students' assignments • I used it on the assignments handed in. Every one • contained plagiarised material • The examples I showed are just a small faction of the • plagiarism that my application found

  10. How Not to Plagiarise • Read lots of different articles • Analyse and summarise each article in your own words. • What did you think was important? What was the main • message or idea? • Hide the original article so you cannot copy from it • Write the answer down using the knowledge that you • learned from reading the articles, and use your • summaries to help you remember the main points • If you do not learn to do this now, you will not get through • your first year at University

  11. Resubmit Your Assignments • Each one of you will resubmit your assessment • You will apply the expected qualities that a Diploma • student must demonstrate: • Specialised knowledge and skills in a particular area • Ability to analyse information • A broad range of techical, cognitive and • communication skills
