P-20 Task Force - Broad Charge • Address some vexing challenges that have kept our state from achieving its educational goals • Alignment • Educator Preparation • STEM • Leadership • Explore opportunities for System collaboration • Develop strategies and action plans • Focus on achievable and measurable outcomes

Committee Chairs/ Committee Members • The committee was chaired by 2 University Presidents: • Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier – President, Texas A&M University – San Antonio • Dr. Dan Jones – President, Texas A&M University – Commerce • The following individuals served on this committee: • Dr. Frank Ashley, Dr. Jill Burk, Dr. Mario Eraso, Dr. Robert Garza, Dr. Frank Hall, Concepcion Hickey, Dr. Maria Hinojosa, Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso, Dr. Robin Kapavik, Dr. W. Sean Kearney, Dr. Ernestine Lacy, Dr. Donna Lang, Dr. Cathleen Loving, Dr. Pete Linkins, Dr. Eric Lopez, Dr. Thomas McDonald, Lynn Paris, Dr. Sarina Phillips, Judy Ratlief, Dr. Antonio Rene, Marie Aguirre Rodriguez, Dr. Alberto Ruiz, Dr. Kim Rynearson, Dr. Wade Shaffer, Dr. Mary Sherwood, Michelle Skinner, Dr. Albert Valadez, Dr. Velma Villegas, Dr. Lucian Yates,

P-20 Task Force – Framework • In the 2011-2012 School Year, the P-20 Task Force created 4 subcommittees: Alignment; Educator Preparation; STEM; and Leadership • In June/July, the Framework subcommittee composed of 1 representative from each of the 4 committees plus a representative for the Deans of the Schools of Education worked to create the Framework for the Preparation of Highly Effective Educators in the Texas A&M System • In August/September the Education Deans further refined the framework focusing on outcome measures and implementation strategies

Changing the Face of Public Education to Impact New Realities A Framework for the Preparation of Highly Effective Educatorsin The Texas A&M System Develop and strengthen community college, district and community partnerships Develop efficient and responsive models for educator preparation Collaborate on research and development with partnering institutions Enhance the preparation of educators for virtual settings Build teacher recruitment programs in STEM areas Highly Effective Maximizing Student Achievement & Potential Align coursework and programs internally and externally Educators Design school leadership preparation to support new realities Improve PK-6 teaching practices in STEM areas

  6. P-20 Task Force – Framework • The Framework is based on: • (a) the 1996 TAMUS Regents Initiative; • (b) the work of the subcommittees; • (c) best practices from various institutions; and • (d) Feedback as drafts have been sent to the Deans and presented to the Board of Regents

  7. P-20 Task Force • Next step – today is to solicit feedback from Superintendents, University Administration, and Faculty to further refine the P-20 Framework in order to maximize student achievement and potential
