There + the BE Verb with Spatial Order The first time you write about a subject, use there + the BE verb when you write about location, time, ways, reasons, etc. When write using spatial order, you describe a location, so there + the BE verb is very useful. location • There is a sofa near the window. • There are three plants on the shelf next to the door. location

  4. There + BE Verb (Singular) Singular Word Location Noun There + BE a fireplace in my living room. There is There is one bathroom in my apartment. There isn’t a swimming pool in my building.

  5. There + BE Verb (Plural) Plural Word Location Noun There + BE two chairs in my living room. There are There are a few train lines in my neighborhood. There are several children in my building.
