Testing the ccm tool

Purpose of trial

  • Very small study on a section of stock at University of Manchester Library

  • Used it as an exercise to teach myself how to use the CCM Tool

  • Hoped to identify a percentage of stock that could be withdrawn

Testing the ccm tool

Method

  • Section of books at 001.642 ABE to 001.642 BOF

  • Noted barcodes for these items, entered into a spreadsheet, and checked them on Talis

  • Saved Bib ids into a .csv file.

  • Batch search on the CCM tool trying all the deduplication options and the results were the same in each case

  • Search returned 23 items that I pulled back into .csv file for use later

  • Time spent = approx. an hour in total

Testing the ccm tool

Result

  • Small sample, but proves that we can make use of the tool for weeding slightly newer store stock

  • Learned how to use the tool and will be able to put it into practice for small samples of data

  • When ready to pull data from Alma we will be ready to handle larger samples of data

Testing the ccm tool

Benefits

  • Good way to identify stock in Store that can be weeded. With agreement from management we could withdraw materials without as much intervention from other sections.

  • I now feel confident that if asked to identify stock for withdrawal I will be able to use the CCM Tool efficiently and effectively.

  • I have also been able to assist the COPAC Team in user testing for the improved interface.
