  1. Al Capone V-DayMassacre >Moved to Brooklyn as a young child from Naples. >Recruited by Johnny Torrio >Acquired Syphilis, likely from a prostitute, in his adolescence. >Syphilis “went away” and Capone never got it treated, however it likely caused dementia and may have been responsible for his violent outbursts. >Soon after these events, he got into a bar fight for coming onto another man’s sister, in which he got 3 cuts across his face, and earned the name “Scarface”. >He moved to Chicago, where Torrio had just inherited the “Crime Throne” after “Big Jim” Colosmio was murdered. >Capone became the leader of a brothel, in where people who had info Torrio wanted were tortured, and prostitutes offered their services on the floor above. >Torrio was set up by another mobster, O’Banion, and was sent to jail for 8 months for bootlegging and never returned to crime. Meawhile Capone got O’Banion killed and took over both his and Torrio’s crime arenas. >After expanding his “Business” for a few years Capone and his friend Jack McGurn tried to kill Bugs Moran for putting a hit out on McGurn. >Resulted in Valentines day massacre, when Capones men dressed as police officers and killed innocent men whom they though Moran was with. He was not there and survived that day. >Because of the Valentines Day Massacre, the Government started looking into Capone’s “Business”, and found a way to catch him. >Capone was sentenced to 11 years for Bootlegging and tax evasion, and after being released, spent the rest of years in his Villa in Palm Springs, until a heart attack killed him in 1947 at the age of 48.

  2. Quote: When I sell liquor, it’s bootlegging; when my patrons serve it on Lake Shore Drive, it’s called hospitality. • Differential Association Theory explains his behavior because that’s the way he grew up. Ever since he was an adolescent child he was a criminal and that was one thing that wasn’t going to change easily. He grew up in early 1900s Brooklyn. Crime would’ve been everywhere and Capone saw how it worked and how he could make it better, and so he did. • Another thing that really cause Capone to become a criminal was that it all sort of worked out for him. He got in with Johnny Torrio when he was a big crime boss in Brooklyn, and that really helped him get around with crime. When Torrio was sent away, he inherited his (and a few others’) crime rackets. It was just too easy for him to stop at that point.
