18th Amendment is put into effect, banning alcohol in the U.S. Later repealed with the 21st amendment in 1933 making alcohol legal once again.

Supreme Court finds in favor of the teacher because of technicality – Jury was supposed to set the fine and not the judge because judges in Tennessee could not set fines above $50

Two immigrants accused and convicted of having robbed a small business

Not too much evidence but lawyers kept working on the case for 6 years

Suggests the anti-immigrant sentiment of the time

  • African Americans developed communities

    • Focused on new artistic movements that highlighted

      • racial pride,

      • political organization

      • new forms of expression such as jazz, blues and “Negro Nationalism” - idea developed by Marcus Garvey that focused on glorifying black cultures and traditions.
