  1. The Treasure House Author: Linda Newbery By Aimee Li

  2. Content When Nina's mother, Miranda, mysteriously disappears, Nina's father goes to look for her, leaving Nina with her two eccentric aunts who run a charity shop in town. Nina soon discovers that working in the shop can be funny, intriguing and rewarding as she takes in weird and wonderful donations, makes new friends and uncovers strange secrets!

  3. But Nina is determined to solve the mysteries that have taken over her life • Where has her mother gone? • Why did she leave so suddenly? • And just what is the secret she's been hiding?

  4. Feeling • This book is beautifully written and once I started it, I did not want to put it down until I reached the end of the book. • There is also a completely different story and message within the book, which ties in to the aunts shop  - that of visiting charity and secondhand shop and reinventing clothes and fabrics. In this time where make do and mend and vintage is coming back into fashion, this book shows young adults that it can be 'cool' to buy second hand. • I really recommend this book to my classmates. It also suitable for mums and their children, they will both enjoy it.

  5. Hero on a Bicycle Author: Shirley Hughes Publisher: Walker Books Ltd. Type of book: Fiction No. of pages: 222

  6. Characters Paolo Crivelli – the 13-year-old hero who lives with his older sister; wants to help Partisans, the Italian Resistance. Shirley Hughes – captivated at the age of 19 on her first visit to Florence Constanza – Paolo’s sister who always waits for Paolo to return safely at night and fell in love with the prisoner

  7. Main points in summary

  8. Comments The book was thrilling and had many twists. Originally, I thought Paolo’s family was safe after the Nazis didn’t find the Allied prisoners. However, they checked once more because of someone’s betrayal, and I believed that it must have been Constanzo’s friends who gave away the information. Yet it was instead their family member, Mario. It was quite unexpected, so the story was interesting.

  9. WILLIAM'S MIDSUMMER DREAMS by Zilpha Keatley Snyder

  10. Summary Eighth-grader William,Buddy, and his two sisters, Trixie and Jancy, have been living with their Aunt Fiona since they escaped the clutches of their cruel father and half-brothers. William thoroughly enjoys his new life, especially when the opportunity arises to try out for the role of Puck in a prestigious summer production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. After a spectacular audition, William clinches the role of Puck and makes himself an enemy in the process—a boy called Bernard, the son of the Dean of Performing Arts, who was sure he had the role locked up. A girl named Clarice, who is quite infatuated with William, insists on trying to solve his problem with Bernard and ends up only complicating things further. Finally, in an initially interesting but not entirely successful subplot, Jancy and William have to face the fact that Buddy is behaving like one of their half-brothers, starting fights and making quite the nuisance of himself.

  11. This was a funny book to read because it combined some of my favorite things! It tells the story of a boy who was performing in a Shakespeare summer festival during the 1930s...a unique and interesting setting and plot combination! William and the other characters were fun and believable. The only thing that bothered me about this book were the font changes to Old English everytime anything Shakespeare-related was mentioned. Other than that, I liked it!
