English and Tourism in Oman • Arabic is the official language however • English is the second language, the “global language” (Crystal, 1997), the “language of international and intercultural communication” (Hardin, 1979), the “most commonly used language of hospitality and the lingua franca of tourists and travelers” (Blue and Harun, 2003)
