  2. Previously in ICT Last lesson: Last lesson you began to look at Cyber-bullying. You learnt about reliable information and collected the information that you will place in your leaflet.

  3. Lesson Objectives This lesson students will: 1. Learn how to present information using publisher. 2. Understand the importance of using sensible fonts & sizes. 3. Look at the importance of colour in presenting information.

  4. Presenting Information How to make sure your message gets across When you are creating any professional publication the most important item is the information. Badly presented information can be difficult to read and ultimately may be miss-read or ignored. When presenting information it is important to think about: 1) Font size 2) Text colour 3) Font Style

  5. Font Size How to make sure your message gets across Small font is difficult to read. Iam a little tiny font can you read me? No? Didn’t think so? Large fonts look childish and prevent you from displaying as much information. This is big and written by a little person!!!!!!!

  6. Typography How to make sure your message gets across Microsoft office gives us access to hundreds of different fonts. Not all of them are suitable all of the time. It is important that your information is easy to read, so the font you choose should be clear and simple. Your font should also not draw attention away from the information you are trying to deliver. Some fonts are hard to read. Others just look silly. Some take attention away from what is being said.

  7. Using Colour How to make sure your message gets across Colour has a profound impact on how easy information is to read. If text is to be coloured it should be a very different colour to the background and not so bright that it is difficult to read. Light colours are hard to read Some colours don’t go well together Bright colours draw attention away from what is being read Using many different colours can make informationalmost impossibleto read.

  8. Spot the problems What is wrong with this?: Cyber-bullying Cyber-bullying involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others. It is still bullying!

  9. Starter Design rules In pairs create a list of rules that govern how you should present information. Your rules should cover colour, font size, and typography. Think about the following: a) How many different sizes\colours\fonts should you have in a publication? b) Which fonts work best? c) What colours go well together?

  10. Themes and designs When choosing fonts and colours it is important to decide on a theme. This theme should be based on the information you are trying to show. The font chosen here for the headings is retro computer style (fits in with the idea of cyber). The yellow and black warning background shows danger.

  11. Steps to a good design Follow the yellow brick road! First choose a set of colours which will fit well with the idea. You should always avoid colours which only boys or girls would like Then choose a font for the headings. Create a heading to try out your ideas. Choose a main font and colour. Create a text box and say what will go in that text box later. Decide where you will put images but don’t add any yet! Choose a background Now start adding text and images (known as content) Then add special effects!

  12. Task 1 What makes a good leaflet? Write down what makes a good leaflet. Think about what you have learned in ICT so far.

  13. Task 2 Starting the leaflet Decide what will go on each page of your leaflet and add headings. Then start creating your design. Do not start adding images or content. The design must be agreed with your teacher first! You should follow the list you made in task 1.

  14. Plenary Before you leave: Quick Quiz: 1. How many different text sizes should we use? 2. How many different fonts should we use? 3. What text size should information be? 4. Give 2 colours that go well together and 2 that are horrible! Homework Its work for home: Ensure the layout is completed for next lesson.
