  1. LOTEHAT 2 ProjectInvestigation Showcase 2012 Name: Linton ROE School Name: Bayswater South Primary School Investigation Title: Using Videoconferencing to Enhance Student Learning

  2. What I did: • Surveyed my Year 5/6 students as to whether they thought videoconferencing would enhance their learning. • Surveyed students from other schools. • Ran some videoconferencing sessions. • Asked some students to reflect on the project. • Analysed the initial data.

  3. What I learnt: • BSPS students were intrigued with the new technology and its possibilities. • Many students were curious as to how it works. • They did enjoy the interaction with other students, as it was a chance to reflect on their capabilities relative to another school. • Students from other schools ranked the German learning highly. • For me, the technical (ICT) side of things was not as difficult as the organisational side (finding common time and communicating). • Quality pedagogy still outweighs technical advantages in terms of student learning.

  4. Where to from here: • Resurvey the students after some more sessions, to see whether their opinions have changed. • Need more data about how an additional class can positively influence Science knowledge and understandings. • Need to create more opportunities for the students to use their German skills. • Hear what the kids have to say (see video clips). • Embed the technology in appropriate ways.

  5. STUDENT OPINIONS • What do you think about learning Science in German with videoconferencing? Tori Ben Sammy Rowan Hannah, Anirudhan & Jessie Maddie, Isaac, Amelia & Sunny
