  1. PWG-LF analysis: experience and requests Domenico Elia (INFN Bari) for the PWG-LF Offline week / 7.3.2012

  2. Outline • Physics Analysis Groups in PWG-LF: • Global EventObservables$ALICE_ROOT/PWGLF/FORWARD $ALICE_ROOT/PWGPP/EVCHAR • Spectra$ALICE_ROOT/PWGLF/SPECTRA • Strangeness$ALICE_ROOT/PWGLF/STRANGENESS • Resonances$ALICE_ROOT/PWGLF/RESONANCES • User feedback: • ESD vs AOD basedanalysis (multistrange, V0 in PbPb) • analysisoperations (all): • running on CAF and GRID • LEGO trains (to be first used for PbPb 2010 AODs) • productions (ongoing, nextrequests) Offline week / 7.3.2012

  3. ESD vs AOD analysis • Lambda/K0s PbPbanalysis “strategy”: • getmainspectra out of ESDs (nearlydone) • runningalmost 100% on the GRID • plan to use AODs for systematicsstudies • ESD vs AOD validationongoing (almost OK) Offline week / 7.3.2012

  4. ESD vs AOD analysis • MultistrangePbPbexperience: • wholeanalysisdone on ESDs up to SQM • starteddeveloping code for AODscouple of months ago: • speed-up running over full statistics • V0 and Cascadevertexing re-done (looser cosV0PA cut) in AODs • running on GRID indeedmuchfasteron AODs: • factor 10 gain wrtESDs • about 100% runningefficiency (80% with EDSs) • AOD related bug spottedrunning on CAF (SB #91071): • due to a change in ROOT default behaviour • made running on AODsextremely slow • shouldalsoinfluencerunning on ESDs • solved by Andrei last Friday (fix in the next AN tag) • temporarysolution: add in UseCreateOutputObjects() • gROOT->SetMustClean(kFALSE); Offline week / 7.3.2012

  5. Analysis operations • Running on CAF: • generallylimited to fast checks on the code • staging of datasetsalwaysdonequickly (thanks to AAF admins) • no special issuesreported • Running on GRID: • lower performance up to end 2011: • jobswaiting in queues, high fractionending in erroretc • mergingpainful(problems with many SE …) • muchimproved over the last twomonths: • quiteefficientrunning • muchfastermerging (impressive) • merginglocally (to be tried via JDL) • few GRID powerusers Offline week / 7.3.2012

  6. Analysis operations • LEGO trains: • usage/advantagesdiscussedat the last PWG meeting: • triggereddiscussions in allPAGs • first trains just approved (PbPb 2010 AOD strangenessanalysis) Thanks to JanFiete! Offline week / 7.3.2012

  7. Productions • PbPb 2010 AOD re-production (ST #24646): • status: ongoing (data AODsdone, MC to be done) • requiredbecause a new cut for V0 reco (done in ESD filtering) • tookmonths to start: • variousbugs (centrality, slow AOD filteringetc) • further (initiallyunexpected) additions/mods to the code • MC AODs re-prodtestedOK, will go on with: • LHC11a10b_plus (strangenessinjected HIJING, 0-90%) • LHC11f5 (strangenessinjected HIJING, 0-20%) • LHC11a10a_bis (standard HIJING) • expected to be completed in a week • further notes: • LHC11f5 “good” AODsalreadyexist … butmanyrunsmissing • MC anchors: 155 runs, then the list of goodrunschanged •  only 92 of them are good … (1/3 statslost ?) Offline week / 7.3.2012

  8. Productions • PbPb 2010 AOD re-production (ST #24646) • Multistrangeenhanced MC pp@2.76 TeV(ST #25351): • status: ongoing, test jobsvalidated • tookonemonth to start: • need to use pass2-like AliRoot • some work needed to prepare OCDB snapshots … • requested 10 M events (50% Xi and 50% Omega triggeredevts) • expectedto be completed in 2-3 days Offline week / 7.3.2012

  9. Productions • PbPb 2010 AOD re-production (ST #24646) • Multistrangeenhanced MC pp@2.76 TeV(ST #25351) • V0 high pTV0 trigger MC pp@2.76 TeV: • status: request to be submitted • needed for high pTcorrection in V0 analysis • requiresmods in AliGenPythia (SB #92223): • enabletriggering with specificspecieswithin a givenpTwindow • extension of existingAliGenPythia::SetTriggerParticle() • alreadytestedlocally (thanks to David D. Chinellato) • willrequire~ 50 M events (pT > 2 GeV/c) • potentialissue: • need for pass2-like production (oldAliRoot ?) •  how to handleAliRootmods, OCDB snapshotsetc? Offline week / 7.3.2012

  10. Productions • PbPb 2010 AOD re-production (ST #24646) • Multistrangeenhanced MC pp@2.76 TeV(ST #25351) • V0 high pTV0 trigger MC pp@2.76 TeV • PWG-LF production coordinator: • aim to coordinate, help preparing and testing MC requests • first discussedat the last coordination meeting on monday • will be followed up to identify a personverysoon Offline week / 7.3.2012
