  5. The Ribbon • Used in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access • Replaces standard menu structure (pull-downs) • Includes program commands and features • Switch among task-oriented tabs and see the available functions

  6. Tabs • Top of Ribbon • Displays the commands that are most relevant for each of the task areas in the applications • Home tab has most frequently used commands

The Office Button • Replaces File pull-down • Create (new), Open, Print, Save (as), Save as PDF • Prepare document: Properties, encrypt, restrict access, add digital signature, mark as final (read-only) • Send: Email or fax document • Publish: Create a blog post (Word), prepare for CD (PowerPoint)

  8. Quick Access Toolbar • A customizable toolbar that contains a set of commands that are independent of the tab that is currently displayed • Can add or delete buttons to your preferences • Can locate above or below the ribbon

  9. Contextual Tabs • Only appear as needed • Shows sets of commands that are only relevant when objects of a particular type are being edited • Makes it easier to find and use the commands needed for the task at hand

Galleries • Provide users with a set of clear results to choose from when working on their document, spreadsheet, presentation, or Access database • Presents a simple set of potential results, rather than a complex dialog box with numerous options • Simplify the process of producing professional looking work

  11. Live Preview • Shows the results of applying an editing or formatting change as the user moves the pointer over the results presented in a Gallery • Streamlines the process of laying out, editing, and formatting so users can create excellent results with less time and effort
