  2. Welcome Back! • I hope you all had a wonderful break, but now it’s time to get down to business! • [Most] of you passed last semester—congratulations! • Those who failed? You have an opportunity to start over this semester. • EVERYONE starts this semester with a clean slate.

  3. How to Make the Most of This Semester LISTEN to Ms. Polson Come to School Do ALL Homework/Classwork—On time Stay Organized Utilize My Teacher Website ASK QUESTIONS!

  5. Classroom Rules • Be respectful and courteous to your teacher and peers • Bring all of your English materials to class each day. • Assume responsibility for your actions and your assignments • Keep your desk and the surrounding area clean • No eating/having food out in class.

  6. Detention Policy • You will receive a detention for the following infractions: • Eating/having food out in class • Talking during a silent day • Excessive tardies • Disrespectful behavior • You will have one week to serve your detention from the date given. If you do not serve the detention, then it will result in an office referral. • Detentions are held every day after school. • You may also serve detention before school or at lunch, but by appointment only.

  7. Three Strikes • The “three strikes” rule is back this semester! • Anytime the class as a whole is being loud and/or disrespectful, the class will receive a strike. • Get three strikes?—You’re silent until I tell you otherwise. Those who talk will receive a detention.

  8. Tardy Policy • BE ON TIME to class! This will help you avoid getting “locked out” • The door will close when the late bell rings. If you are outside the door, you are late and will be marked as such. 4 Step Tardy Policy • Warning • Call Parents • Detention • Write Up

  9. I am missing an important educational opportunity in Ms. Polson’s class for this frivolous errand. Bathroom Passes Name:_________ Destination:_________ Date:_________ Teacher Signature:_________ • You will ONLY get 4 hall passes this semester. • Use them wisely, and don’t lose them. • At the end of the semester, you will submit your left over passes into a raffle. We will vote on the prizes at the end of the semester. • You may win more than once.  4

  10. Absent/ Make-Up Work Procedures • It is YOUR responsibility to obtain your make-up work when you are absent. You have 2 days to make up your work for full credit. • Please see the make-up work binder for your assignments • 9th Grade– Blue Binder • 10th Grade– Green Binder

  11. Absent/ Make-Up Work Procedures • The front part of the binder will have a log outlining what we did in class while you were absent. • The back part of the binder will have copies of the handouts you missed while you were absent.

  12. Late Work Policy--Changed • Students must submit assignment on time in order to keep up with what is going on in class; however, accidents do happen. • First day late= 85% • After that=50% • Late assignments must be submitted with the completed missing work log in the late work bin. • These logs are kept with the late work bin I will only grade late assignments TWICE this semester. Once at midterm, and again at the end of the semester.

  13. English Binder • Your English Binder will be EXTREMELY important this semester. • STAY ORGANIZED! • Notebook Checks count as a test grade. • Every 4-6 weeks • 1/15—First check You need: • A 3 ring binder • With 5 dividers Dividers: • Bellwork/Journals • Reading Log • Classwork/Homework • Notes/Handouts • Graded Work

  14. English Binder • This semester, I will be keeping an example binder for you to reference throughout the year. • This binder will be kept at the back of the classroom on the bookshelf next to the monkey statue.
