Outlines our city’s five year strategic focus areas within overall LTDF Not just the city’s planning tool, but an inclusive planning instrument that mobilises support of all city sectors and partners (NGO’s, CBOs, Tertiary Institutions, Unions, Parastatals, etc.) Helps direct city spending in a more strategic way Implementable document: tied into Senior management’s Performance Contracts!

    36. Performance Measurement IDP Plans are individually driven by senior management Each Programme and project has a process owner Clear KPIs for each plan, programme & project are being finalised Strategic City Scorecard Customer focus Financial focus Internal focus Learning and growing focus

    37. CLOSING THOUGHTS Making our City’s IDP work: Roles of UKZN Personal angst about planning practice and academia? How do we support each other? What are our roles as urban geographers? about constructive criticism only? about serious engagement with City? For me, perhaps about real, serious partnerships, given that Durban is OUR City, and eThekwini OUR municipality??
