  1. Scheme Of Redemption Lesson # 11 Jesus Is Coming Again!

  2. Second Coming – No Direct Reference • "so Christ also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to them that wait for him, unto salvation." (Hebrews 9:28, ASV) • Virtual playground for men’s imaginations to run wild! • Let’s allow the scriptures to do the talking and leave off sensational commentary.

  3. Greek Words • Parousia -"But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming." (1 Corinthians 15:23, NKJV) • Apokalypsis - "and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels," (2 Thessalonians 1:7, NKJV) • Epiphaneia - "that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing," (1 Timothy 6:14, NKJV) • Phaneroo - "and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away." (1 Peter 5:4, NKJV)

  4. Greek Words • Erchomai - "For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes." (1 Corinthians 11:26, NKJV) • Heko – "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up." (2 Peter 3:10, NKJV) • Hemera - "For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night." (1 Thessalonians 5:2, NKJV)

  5. Greek Words • Elpis - "looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ," (Titus 2:13, NKJV)

  6. Epiphaneia versus Parousia • Jesus is going to appear parousia : a coming for His saints (rapture). And then later He will come with His saints epiphaneia! • What’s wrong with this teaching? How many comings does this teach? Bible? • "And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness (epiphaneia) of His coming (parousia)." (2 Thessalonians 2:8, NKJV)

  7. Epiphaneia versus Parousia • "so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints." (1 Thessalonians 3:13, NKJV) • Coming with Saints should be epiphaneia, but parousia is used! • "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep." (1 Thessalonians 4:14-15, NKJV) • Coming with Saints and coming for Saints happens at the same time in this verse!

  8. The Second Coming Of Christ- Certain • "And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were looking steadfastly into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven." (Acts 1:9-11, ASV) • 1 Thes. 4:16; John 14:1-3 • Every book except Gal., Philemon, 2& 3 John

  9. The Second Coming Of Christ • His resurrection is offered as proof! • "inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead." (Acts 17:31, ASV) • "But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming." (1 Corinthians 15:20-23, ASV)

  10. Time Of His Coming? • "But of that day or that hour knoweth no one, not even the angels in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.“ (Mark 13:32-33, ASV) • "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.“ (1 Thessalonians 5:2, ASV) • William Miller (1843,1840); Charles T. Russell (1874, 1914); JF Rutherford (1925); Hal Lindsey (1988) & all who were ready in 2000.

  11. Time Of His Coming? – Matt. 24 • "For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and shall lead many astray. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not troubled: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places." (Matthew 24:5-7, ASV) • "Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished." (Matthew 24:34, ASV)

  12. How Will Jesus Come? In Secret? • "who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven." (Acts 1:11, ASV) • "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first;" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, ASV) • "Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice," (John 5:28, ASV) • "and to you that are afflicted rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire," (2 Thessalonians 1:7, ASV)

  13. How Will Jesus Come? • "to the end he may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints." (1 Thessalonians 3:13, ASV) • "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 4:14, NKJV)

  14. Purpose Of His Coming? • "Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment." (John 5:28-29, ASV) • "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up." (2 Peter 3:10, ASV)

  15. Purpose Of His Coming? • "And to these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, Behold, the Lord came with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have ungodly wrought, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." (Jude 14-15, ASV) • "when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be marvelled at in all them that believed (because our testimony unto you was believed) in that day." 18. Resurrection – Bodily • "But some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what manner of body do they come?" (1 Corinthians 15:35, ASV) • "but God giveth it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own." (1 Corinthians 15:38, ASV) • "So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: it is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body." (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, ASV) • "who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself." (Philippians 3:21, ASV)

  21. Burning Up Of Everything! • "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy living and godliness, looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." (2 Peter 3:10-13, ASV)

  22. Judgment Of All Mankind! • "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad." (2 Corinthians 5:10, NKJV) Judgment seat at Corinth!

Separation of Sheep & Goats • "But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:" (Matthew 25:31-34, ASV) • "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:" (Matthew 25:41, ASV)

  25. Christian Attitudes • Extremes to be avoided • Calculating timing, evaluating events, no planning at all. • Not coming at all, not for a long time..I have plenty of time to get ready. • Undue fear or excitement about the second coming.

(2 Peter 3:12, NKJV) • "Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober." (1 Thessalonians 5:6, NKJV) • "But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation." (1 Thessalonians 5:8, NKJV)
