  1. The British Museum alone makes London a preferred tourist destination. The museum is home to various collections of paintings, sculptures, antiquities and many other curiosities.  This extremely popular museum displays an array of objects dating from pre-historic times all the way to the modern era. Amazing artefacts such as the Parthenon sculptures, the Rosetta Stone, and mummies from the Ancient Egypt collection are all a part of the variety of things on display. However, if you want to make a quick visit there are a few exhibits that should not be missed - The Rosetta Stone, The Lewis Chessmen, The Mold Cape, The Oxus Treasure

  2. On the banks of the River Thames one can find Britain’s National Museum housing contemporary and modern art. The building was previously a power station, so it has a unique shape. The restaurants at the gallery also provide a spectacular view the city. Tate Museum, which is now known as Tate Britain, is also the oldest of the four. The museum is dedicated to British artwork. While it does have a considerable permanent collection the museum also organizes special exhibitions, temporary exhibitions as well as certain prestigious contemporary art competitions like the Turner prize. Tracey Emin is a famous and controversial artist who is displayed here. The place is also alive with the frequent presence of contemporary artists and there are opportunities for discussion and debate.

  3. Located at Trafalgar square and home to about 2300 beautiful paintings, the National Gallery of London should definitely make its way to almost any London itinerary. Set up in 1824, it the fifth most visited museum in the world. The quality and variety of art in this place is beyond words. Some of the world’s most famous paintings are found here. Whether you are an art lover or not this is unquestionably a place to see in London. A visit transports you into art heaven. Claude Monet, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci are just a few of the famous artists whose paintings you will get a chance to see here. Just two of the many iconic paintings displayed here are Vincent Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” and Rembrandt’s “Self Portrait at the age of 34”.

  4. Imagine being a bird and looking down at a gorgeous and sprawling city from your Birdseye vantage point. In London you don’t have to imagine! Built in 1999, it is a recent addition to the London skyline. Even so, it is very popular amongst the tourists in London. It is sight to see even as it is but a ride in it is a lifetime experience. London Eye is a giant wheel observation wheel that turns slow enough for people to go on board while it is moving. The complete turn of this giant wheel takes about more than 30 minutes. It is about 135 meters high. Go for a night view, as it is more spectacular and it is comparatively less crowded.

  5. Madame Tussauds is a worldwide phenomenon now but the magic began in London. This is a very unique museum where can see the wax figurines of your favourite celebrities and perhaps take pictures with them.  Founded by a very creative wax sculptor of the same name, Madame Tussauds has sculptures of politicians, athletes, singers, actors, and a host of other famous figures. This place is perfect for families. Cameras are allowed so you can take pictures with these wax versions of your favourite celebrities. You can also have professional photographers take your pictures. Be sure to visit the “Chamber of Horrors” which also hosts a 5 minute show called “SCREAM”.
