  2. WHY DID IT HAPPEN??? • The Vietnam War(a.k.a. Vietnam Conflict) was the long struggle between nationalist armies trying to unite the country of Vietnam under a communist rule and the U.S. (and South Vietnamese) trying to stop the spread of communism. • The Vietnam Conflict was the source of many conflicting governmental and public views, especially in the years close to its finish.

  3. When/where??? • Started in 1959 • Peace agreement signed January 1973 • Officially Ended April 30th, 1975 • Was in Cambodia and Laos, Vietnam map

  4. Who Fought in It?????? • Australia, • The Republic Of China • South Vietnam • United States • South Korea • The Philippines • New Zealand • Thailand • The Khmer Republic • The Kingdom Of Laos

  5. FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • The Vietnam War took place right after the Korean War, • and it was considered to be a part of the Cold WAR • China was a major head leader in the Vietnam War • 240 men were awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War.

More Facts! • More than 3 million people(including 58,000 Americans) were killed in the Vietnam Conflict, more than half were Vietnamese • The nation spent more than $120 billion on the war in Vietnam from 1965-73 • In 1982 the Vietnamese War Memorial was made in Washington, D.C. • 57,939 American names of people killed or missing were inscribed on it, later added to it so there were 58,200 Vietnam War Memorial

  7. EVEN MORE FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • 2/3 of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers • 75,000 were severely disabled. • The first man to die in Vietnam was James Davis, in 1961 • Five men killed in Vietnam were only 16 years old. • The oldest man killed was 62 years old.
