  5. Classroom Website Many questions can be answered by checking our classroom website. I will do my very best to keep the site updated with a current calendar, long term assignments, and project due dates and instructions. • http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us//Domain/591

  6. Homework Policy • Homework is to be done every weekday (Monday through Thursday) and should take between 35-45 minutes including 20 minutes of reading per day • Daily reading for homework is required. Please sign the “reading log” each night after your child has read. • Homework is checked each morning for completion. Students receive a sticker for each day that ALL homework is complete (including parent signatures). • Homework will be checked and returned to parents in the “Thursday Folder”. • All homework corrected in class by your child will be corrected in red ink. Papers graded by Mrs. Dean will be corrected in any other color. • If children finish homework assignments in class they are still required to bring the work home to show their parent. • Incomplete homework will be completed at recess.

  7. Communication Thursday Folders contain: • Weekly Report: Brightly colored, please read and review work with your child, sign and return the next day. Please pay special attention to the “behavior report” and review any comments with your child.   8. Classroom Expectations • Students are expected to follow all of the rules covered in the “Brookvale Student Handbook” which we have discussed in class. • The three most important and widely used rules at Brookvale are: • Show respect • Make good decisions • Solve problems • Good behavior is acknowledged and rewarded in an ongoing manner. Students can earn group points, individual tickets, and popcorn to fill the popcorn jar as rewards.

  9. Classroom Discipline • If the general rules are not followed, students will be asked to turn their card. The card system operates as follows: • Green: good to go • Yellow: warning • Blue: Recess on the bench • Red: referral/detention/call home • Severe or persistent behavior problems will be resolved by Mrs. Hicks.

  10. Grading Policy • This year your child will receive actual grades on their report card as opposed to Satisfactory/ Needs Improvement. Grades are as follows: • A: 90-100% • B: 80-89% • C:70-79% • D:60-69% • F: 59% and under • Report cards are distributed three times a year. Students are given tests, quizzes, classroom assignments, homework, and projects throughout the year. All are used to formulate report card grades. • Progress reports will be sent home periodically.

  11. Everyday Grading • Exceeds expectations, fantastic work! • On level work − Below level work, please correct and return in Thursday folder • All work corrected by your child or a peer is done in red ink • Work corrected by Mrs. Dean is done in any color other than red

  12. Volunteers Parent Volunteers are needed in the class at the following times: • Tuesday through Friday mornings (8:30-8:45): 1. Check in homework, give students stickers for completion 2. File work into student files each morning • Thursdays (2:00-2:45): 1. File work and complete Thursday folders to go home

  13. Donations Our class is in need of the following donations: • New compasses • Playground balls
