    4. Alternative Preparation Programs National data indicate that almost 1/3 of all new teachers enter the profession through alternative routes. (Feistritzer, 2006, 8.)

RTC Programs Become Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Programs All programs: must meet INTASC standards; have required supervised internships for candidates; and offer mentored residencies of at least one year. All programs must be approved prior to implementation and must submit annual data to maintain approval.

Cohort 3 Performance Surveys 80% of first-year MARCO teachers were rated “Above Average” to “Superior” in preparedness to teach by their principals. 83% of first-year MARCO teachers were rated “Above Average” to “Superior” compared to other first-year teachers by their principals. 80% of first-year MARCO teachers were rated “Above Average” to “Superior” in all areas by their year-long mentors
