  4. Government Agencies • Federal Government • USDVA • VHA (Healthcare), VBA (Benefits) • DOL • Workforce Programs, Joining Forces, etc • State Government • CalVet, EDD, DHC, DMV, CA State Library • Municipal Government • County Veteran Services Offices (CVSOs) • Public Libraries

USDVA, CalVet, CVSOs • Two Major Divisions at the “Federal VA” • VHA (Healthcare), VBA (Benefits) • VHA has Hospitals/Clinics and Vet Centers (MH) • VBA has (in CA) 3 Regional Offices and 1 Satellite Office (VAROs: Oakland, West LA, SD, and a satellite office in Sacramento) – mostly for claims filing and adjudication • CalVet (the “State VA”) • HQ (Sac), 3 District Offices (in the VAROs), 8 LINCs (Local Interagency Network Coordinators), 8 Veteran Homes • County Veteran Services Offices (CVSOs) • 103 Offices, Serving 58 Counties

Non-Governmental Agencies (NGOs) • Non-Profits (AKA 501(c)3 Organizations) • VFW, Am Legion, AmVets, DAV, VVA, MOPH, etc. • Not all are created equal…check websites • Corporations • Many big companies are veteran-friendly • Offering employment, discounts, etc. • Some offer wide-range help (Disney, Google) • Beware some “For-Profit” Organizations! • Some will “sell” an otherwise free service

  8. Volunteers • Volunteer Organizations • Collaborative Partnerships (Statewide and Regional) • AmeriCorps (via Nat’l Corp for Comm Service) • Red Cross, USO, etc • Volunteers at Large/Project Volunteers • Some at CVSO Sites, Vet Centers, VA Clinics • And Now… • LIBRARIES!

What do I need to Remember? • The Triad of Veteran-Assistance Resource Groups (Government, Non-Government Organizations, Volunteers) • Gov’t: Fed (VA), State (CalVet), and County (CVSOs) • Non-Gov: Non-Profits, Corporations, For-Profits • Volunteers: Organized and At-Large (Projects) • These Groups are located throughout the state • Veterans have a myriad of needs…it takes a village (or a Triad!) to assist them.
