  3. Reasons to Implement GIS (Cont.) • Identify Areas that Need Fire Protection • Establish Distinct Service Zone Borders • Identify Areas of Lost Revenue • Retiring Employees • Stay Ahead of Government Mandates

Cost of Implementing GIS • The Cost of Implementing GIS Can Seem Very Expensive • In Reality, Cost Can be Surprisingly Low • A Water Provider Can Implement GIS for the Cost of a Computer w/ an Internet Connection, GPS Equipment, and Basic GIS Software • Software Training, Hiring a Consultant, or Hiring GIS Personnel

GIS Implementation • Identify Your GIS Priorities • Coordinate With Other County Entities • Look Online for Free GIS Data • Start with the Basics – Big Pieces of Infrastructure to Smaller Ones • Rely on Your Fellow Employees for Help • Be Dedicated to the Process • Realize a GIS is Always a Work in Progress
