  6. EU Montenegro Inclusive Education Services Project (EU - MIESP) Autism Facts: • Autism prevalence figures are growing • More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined • Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability • Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to significantly increase in the next decade • Autism receives approximately 5% of the government research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases in USA • Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism An European Union funded project managed by the EU Delegation to Montenegro and implemented by S.I.C.I. Dominus Consortium

  7. EU Montenegro Inclusive Education Services Project (EU - MIESP) • The increase in prevalence rate cannot be explained by better diagnosis alone. Some have suggested that autism is just being better diagnosed today versus years ago and that many cases of mental retardation are now being coded as autism. This would also assume that the experts diagnosing autism before did not know what they were doing. This is NOT TRUE. Autism is the only disorder dramatically on the rise while mental retardation, Down syndrome and cystic fibrosis remain relatively the same.    • While there is no medical detection or known cure for autism, thousands of children have shown significant improvement resulting from early diagnosis and use of effective interventions • While the cause of autism remains unclear, current studies show genetics and environment both play a role in the autism prevalence increase. An European Union funded project managed by the EU Delegation to Montenegro and implemented by S.I.C.I. Dominus Consortium

We want to help families understand options available so they can select the approach that works best for their child. EU Montenegro Inclusive Education Services Project (EU - MIESP) • Resource Center  is to link children and families with appropriate services in order to improve the development of children with autism and related disorders. Autism spectrum disorders impact many areas of functioning, for both children and their families. Research has demonstrated the positive impact of interventions in helping to improve educational performance, socialization, language skills and sensory integration issues. However, it can be difficult to navigate the system and find the right treaters. The Autism Resource Center is here to assist children and families with this process. We  provides referrals for families who have a child with an autism spectrum disorder. The Autism Resource Center’s team has developed an online resource guide to help families . The content in the Autism Resource Center’s website is updated frequently you can find all the information their also our contact numbers.
