  2. 1961 – 1970 Church Facts • 1961- Rev. Paul Duncan left the church to serve a Church in New Lexington, Ohio • 1962- Rev. Forrest Grimm was installed as minister. His yearly salary was set at $6000. • 1964- Minnie Foster was elected by a vote of the congregation to serve as church treasurer. • 1968- Rev. Melvin Pederson begins his pastorate.

  3. 1961 – 1970 Misc. Facts • Average yearly income was $4,700. • Minimum wage was $1.00 • 1961- Johnson and Johnson introduces Tylenol • 1962- The United States Supreme Court rules that officially-sponsored prayer in public schools is unconstitutional. • 1963- The cost of a stamp was 5 cents. • 1963- President Kennedy is assassinated. • 1969- On December 1st the Selective Service conducts the first draft lottery since 1942, affecting 800,000 males born between 1944 and 1950

  5. 1951 – 1960 Church Facts • Rev. Russell Lester was the minister in 1951 • A joint Easter Service was held with the Methodist Church in Cherry Fork on March 25, 1951. • Sunday School Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in 1952 were Homer Eldridge and Keith Baldridge. Orlie Kirker Served as Treasurer.

  6. 1951 – 1960 Misc. Facts • The Average home cost was $14,000. • The Average yearly income was $3, 215. • Gas was 20 cents a gallon. • McDonald’s was founded. • 1955- Polio Vaccine was created. • 1959- Alaska and Hawaii become the 49th and 50th states in the union.

  8. 1941 – 1950 Church Facts • Rev. Willis Crafts was the minister in 1941 and 1942. Rev. Duffey became stated supply on January 1, 1943. • Church members pledged, and were sent letters by the Clerk of Session if pledges were not fulfilled. • The July 20, 1941 Session Minutes state that the Session granted the minister a “liberal vacation” whenever he chooses to take one.

  9. 1941 – 1950 Church Facts Continued • Rev. Lee Page was installed as Stated Supply in October of 1948. At the June 19, 1949 Session meeting, Rev. Page was asked by Session to resign, however, he refused to do so until his contract expired. • Rev. Russell Lester was hired to serve both Seaman and Cherry Fork Presbyterian Churches in March 1950 with an annual salary of $2800. Mr. Lester chose to live in the parsonage owned by the Cherry Fork Presbyterian Church, as opposed to the one in Seaman.

Facts • Average yearly income was $1,299. • 55% of Americans had indoor plumbing. • The U.S. Supreme Court gives blacks the right to vote. • World War II Changes the order of world power, the U.S. becomes a world super-power. • 1945- FDR, the longest serving American President in history, dies.

  12. 1931 – 1940 Church Facts • In September of 1933, the Session voted to sell a $500 savings bond, left to the church in the will of the late Robert Armstrong. • A Music Committee was appointed in 1933. The Committee members would take turns serving as the church pianist. • Rev. R.L. Warnock was installed as pastor on December 15, 1937. Shortly thereafter, the Rev. became ill and died on March 2, 1938. • The Week of January 15, 1939 was declared a “Week of Prayer” by the Church Session, with the following week being slated for revival.

  13. 1931 – 1940 Church Facts Continued • The Session adopted a resolution stating that “We the United Presbyterian Church of Cherry Fork are opposed to vast sums of money being used to defend our religion and are asking that congress do all in their power to promote peace.” The Clerk of Session was asked to mail this resolution to the Congressman.

  14. 1931 – 1940 Misc. Facts • The Unemployment Rate in the U.S. was nearly 25%, however, in the state of Ohio (the nation’s hardest hit) the unemployment rate reached nearly 80%. • "The Star Spangled Banner" becomes the national anthem. • The life expectancy of males was 58 years of age, females 62 years of age. • 1935- The Social Security Act is passed to ensure income for the elderly.
