  2. Vietnam’s Traditional Instruments The Vietnamese Traditional Instruments consist of a wide range of string, wind and percussion instruments. Wind Instruments: • Sao, a transverse flute made of bamboo or hardwood • Ken, a class of double reed instruments • Pua, a brass trumpet without valves • Oc, a conch trumpet Percussion Instruments: • Trong, a drum played with sticks • T’ru’ng, an xylophone made of bamboo • Sinh Tien, a coin clapper • Song Lang, a wood blocker Other: • Dao Long, a singing bowl • Dan Moi, a jaw harp Stringed Instruments • Dan Sen, a two stringed lute • Dan Tranh, a long zither • Dan Day, a lute with a long neck and 3 strings with a body shaped like a trapezoid • Dan Gao, a vertical violin with 2 strings and a coconut resonator • Dan Tam Thap Lue, a hammered dulcimer with 36 metal strings

  3. Vietnamese Traditional Music Scale This cultural music has its most of its music passed down by it being written down. The Vietnamese cultural music also has a scale, which would be the pentatonic scale (5 notes). However in the 1930s, is adopted the Western diatonic (seven notes).

  4. Messages Passed On By the Music Quan Ho: it talks about the love and the sentimental desire of young adults.
