Brief Review • Part of HL7-OMG Healthcare Services Specification Project (HSSP) • HL7 defines Service Functional Model (SFM) • OMG defines technical specification based on SFM • DSS functionality • Takes patient data as the input and returns patient-specific inferences as the output • Generates inferences using knowledge modules • HL7 DSS SFM adopted as DSTU in Sept 2006 cycle • Post-reconciliation tally: 51 aff., 2 neg. (96% aff.)

  3. Discussion Today • Upcoming OMG Request for Proposals (RFP) for DSS • OMG RFP process • Review of DSS RFP draft • Future work on specification of semantic profiles • Potential process • Potential foci for specification

HSSP Process Goal: issue at 3/07 OMG meeting Identify standardization candidates Specify Service Functional Model (SFM) [defines functionality, interfaces, and semantics*] HL7 Process (~1.0 - 1.5 yrs) Adopt SFM as HL7 Draft Standard for Trial Use (DSTU) Issue OMG request for technical specifications Vendors generate common service interface specification OMG Process (~1.5 - 2.0 yrs) Technical service specification adopted as OMG standard Commercial service implementations available *Service semantics also specified in separately balloted semantic profiles
