  1. CSE3: Fluency with Information Technology with your host: Joseph Lynch Presenting Info using MS Powerpoint Desktop Publishing With Word Contributing to the Web with HTML Lab’s #1 and #3 taught the advanced use of MS word such as the creation of sidebars, themes, and automatic tables of contents. In Lab #5, powerpoint tools were taught to the extent of how to build a basic slideshow using pictures and data entered through microsoft Excel. HTML coding was used to create basic webpages. We learned the primary structures and necessary tools in order to create the most basic of websites. Data Analysis with MS Excel Visual Programming with Alice Dynamic Web Programming Using JavaScript We have learned to use Excel to its extent in that we are now able to handle large amounts of data more effectively by knowing how to cut sizes of data tables based on the information. We have also learned to convert massive amounts of data into charts and graphs increasing their usefulness. Alice is a program with pre-designed items and backgrounds allowing users to create scenes items can complete commands in order doing anything from talking to jumping off buildings. JavaScript is a programming language used to increase the level of interactivity of a website. The way’s we have learned to use JavaScript have been to create things such as menu’s that distribute a final total as well as the basic functions of JavaScript incluting if statements, else statements, and loops. Computational Thinking / Overview This computer science course has taught me to use computers to more potential than I ever have before. Although I will admit the use of Microsoft word and other office programs tended to leave me with questions as to why I needed to learn advanced tools, it was useful when learning the uses of Excel I didn’t know existed. This course the Professor Marx teaches is useful for an individual new to the use of computational machines. It’s introductory topics are essential to the inexperienced user, especially in its description of proper protocol upon protection (ie: phony emails and links). To be honest, the JavaScript and HTML coding done in this course has me wondering if I am in the right major. Overall this class was a lot more useful than I originally thought it would be, not to mention actually fun to attend!
