  1. Buy Australian Wine

  2. Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah 2005 At the top of the pyramid is the 2005 Syrah Astralis Vineyard. It is sourced from a vineyard planted in 1920 and is one of the Syrah cuvees in which 100% new oak is utilized (along with Brookman, Hickinbotham, and Piggott Range).

  3. Penfolds Grange 2008 98% Shiraz, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. 19 months in new American hogsheads. 89% Barossa Valley, 9% Clare Valley, 2% Magill Estate. Really does have something different about the nose – plums, redcurrants, beautiful supple tannins, so elegant yet powerful. Long finish with a potency to the structure that deserves long maturation

  4. Moss WoodCabernetSauvignon 1995 Classically complex, perfumed bouquet of briary cassis and mulberries, dark olives and cedary oak, with a suggestion of Amarone-like dried plum fruit. Super-ripe and velvet smooth

  5. Mount Pleasant Maurice O’Shea Shiraz 2003 An outstanding vintage of a Hunter Valley classic, made mostly from 126-year-old vines that produce remarkably concentrated fruit. It’s earthy and intense and thanks to its firm, rie tannins, this is one wine that’s built to last. Food: Roast leg of lamb. Drink now to 2023.”The Epicure Uncorked 2006, Sally Gudgeon & Ralph Kyte-Powell.

  6. Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 1996 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 1996 “I am singularly unconvinced that St Henri should be one sixth of the price of Grange, particularly with a classic vintage such as this. Piquantly ripe and fragrant, it is fruit-driven from start to finish

  7. Poonawatta ‘The 1880’ Shiraz 2012 James Halliday: Great colour; a wine of exceptional complexity both in flavour and structure, with a raft of spicy / savoury notes coursing through the fine black fruits. 96 points. To 2027.

  8. Tanzer International Wine Cellar, Josh Raynolds: Vivid ruby color. Fresh and spicy nose offers vivid red and dark berry aromas complicated by scents of potpourri, olive and black pepper. Very Rhone-like in style, with nervy raspberry and blackberry flavors and slow-building smokiness and spiciness. A salty mineral quality arrives on the finish, which is strikingly pure, gently sweet and extremely long. I’d let this develop in bottle for at least another five years. 93 points.

  9. Poonawatta Eden Valley Riesling 2010 The Eden is produced from a single vineyard of two hectares established in 1972. These old vines cling to the poorest soils on the Poonawatta property; the lean environment keeping the yields low and the flavours concentrated. By using only the free run juice we aim to ensure The Eden displays the purity of the Riesling variety and the Eden Valley region.
