  • 97,914 square miles:
    • 9th largest state.

Common Goal = We can do better for children and families; Mini CFSRs !

  • 2002;
  • Mini CFSRs:
    • Federal CFSR instrument;
    • standardization among DFS offices, and
    • supplements training in “best practices.”
    • Train and team a citizen and DFS worker:
      • Gives citizens a voice;
      • enhances citizen’s knowledge of the system;
      • provides information to a number of other stakeholders, and
      • forces collaboration.
    • Stakeholder meetings during review week;
    • debriefing report;
    • exit meeting;
    • white papers, and
    • information sharing.

  • Pre collaboration:
    • Child abuse and/or neglect major injuries or fatalities reviewed;
    • case worker inquisition;
    • same issues year after year;
    • low morale, and
    • decline in membership.
  • Post collaboration:
    • Pursuing legislation to broaden scope of review;
    • revised policies, procedures and by-laws;
    • national data submission;
    • vision and teambuilding, and
    • broaden the membership.

    • Citizen involvement:
      • Only when an unlikely freezing process occurs somewhere!
  • Cornerstones:
    • Access to services;
    • Quality of services including recovery support, and
    • Coordination.
  • Same Language, and
  • having the discussion!
