BnP DEWG Nov-Dec 2013 Quad Chart

Activities and Accomplishments

Upcoming Key Milestones and Activities

Will work with staff to coordinate SGIP breakfast at NARUC

  • 1 meeting held (Nov-1)

  • Presentation on the areas and need for data usage agreements. Some feel that such form agreements would be helpful for the RECs when asked to share data with research institutions, the IOU and regulatory members were not sure any work needed to be undertaken at this time.  Interested members may continue to work on specific data sharing agreements and issues to present to the membership at a later date to see if consensus exists to revisit the topic

Deliverables

Issues, Concerns, and Help Needed

  • Need more regulators from key states to participate in the BnP

DRGS-B: Start reviewing the current draft of White Paper (already reviewed by the SGCC HLR subgroup): “Resiliency and Security Recommendations for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Cyber-Physical Systems”

DRGS-C: Document on “Microgrid Control and Operation Use Case Outline” 5 of 9 use case descriptions completed in 2013; finish all 9 (Mar’14)

  • 17 meetings (DEWG and subgroups) held (Nov-8; Dec-9)

  • DRGS-C: Completed draft of paper on “Narratives for use cases with integration of microgrids into EPS operations” being reviewed by DRGS

  • DRGS-C: Led Microgrid Panel at SGIP face to face meeting in November 2013

Deliverables

Activities and Accomplishments

Upcoming Key Milestones and Activities

White paper related to a recommended practice for EMC testing of Smart Grid devices. (20144Q)

  • 2 meetings held (Nov-1; Dec-1)

  • Developing the outline and scope of a new white paper related to a recommended practice for EMC testing of Smart Grid devices

  • Received word that IEEE 1613.1 “Standard Environmental and Testing Requirements for Communications Networking Devices Installed in Transmission and Distribution Facilities” has been approved by the IEEE and will be published. The impetus for developing this standard was the EMC testing gaps in IEEE 1613 identified in the EMIIWG White Paper. EMIIWG members John Tengdin and Jerry Ramie were instrumental in developing this new standard and bringing it to consensus and publication in a very short time

New PAP Request expected (2014 1Q)

  • 1 meeting held (Nov-1)

  • Creation of PAP in progress- The subject matter is to specify a pressure monitoring device that is compliant and interoperable with the SGIP CoS. The pressure monitoring device addresses one distribution automation need of the natural gas industry. This effort is to be a test user case and prototype for further work within the Gas Technology WG

Deliverables

Issues, Concerns, and Help Needed

  • Need assistance from staff with administration of meetings

Activities and Accomplishments

Upcoming Key Milestones and Activities

White paper entitled Demand Responsive Residential Appliances Interface with the Smart Grid

White paper entitled Economic Value of Demand Response In the Electric Energy Market

  • 5 meetings held (Nov-3; Dec-2)

  • Solicited comments on proposed CEA-2047, Energy Usage Information, standard for gathering energy usage data from residential devices and appliances in collaboration with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)

  • Explained the potential impact of Transactive Energy on consumers in collaboration with the B2G DEWG.

TnD DEWG Nov-Dec 2013 Quad Chart

Activities and Accomplishments

Upcoming Key Milestones and Activities

  • 3 meetings held (Nov-2; Dec-1)

  • TBLM figures were updated and the COMFEDE is now covered in the model. A new scenario 15 comprising a sequence of events log has been added. Work has begun on the messages, but new object models required was submitted for the December meeting

  • TnD Charter being updated and was compared with the DRGS to charter to make sure that they are aligned appropriately. The was a perceived need to define the scope more narrowly and add specifics to the deliverables to align with scope

Issues, Concerns, and Help Needed

Deliverables

  • The IEEE 1547 Workshop was discussed and there was concern expressed by the addition of the word “interoperability” to the scope of the standard as well as overlap between IEEE 1547 and SEP 2.0; both standards appear to be going beyond their original scopes.

  • Discussion on CPUC Alternative Fuel vehicle proceedings and recent plan on submetering pilots.

  • Discussion on EPRI initiatives in vehicle to grid communication

  • PAP 22 has established a separate Liaison Coordination Team with key representatives from NEMA, NIST, ANSI, and PAP22 to ensure the efforts of each organization is coordinated and augment each other, do not unnecessarily overlap or duplicate efforts

Issues, Concerns, and Help Needed

Deliverables

  • Requested subject matter expert for 25 hours to assist in reviewing ANSI C12 and NIST Weight and Measures HB-44 standards for submetering requirements and provide review of current state of the standards
