  1. ANTE TODO • In Spanish, several verbs have irregular yo forms in the present tense. • You have already seen three examples of these verbs with the –go ending in the yo form: hacer hago tener tengo poner  pongo

  2. There are 4 families of these verbs that must be memorized by their “yo” ending type. • These verbs are only irregular in the “yo” form and have all other regular present tense forms.

  3. First Family – “go” Verbs • There is a small but very important group of verbs that we call the “-go” verbs. These verbs drop their ER or IR ending to replace with “go” in the “yo” form only. They are: • Hacer: to make/do • Poner: to put • Salir: to leave • Tener: to have • Traer: to bring • Venir: to come • Oír: to hear • Decir: to say/tell

  6. Examples: — A veces salgo con mis amigos al parque. — Nunca vengo a la escuela tarde. The other forms are regular. • Mi madre siempre hacela cena. • Juan pone la mesa para la cena.

  8. The verb oír Oigo a unas personas en la otra sala. I hear some people in the other room. ¿Oyes música latina? Do you hear Latin music?

  9. The verbs ver y saber • The verbs ver (to see) and saber (to know a fact) have irregular yo forms. The other forms of ver are regular. ver (to see) saber (to know) SINGULAR FORMS yo veo sé tú ves sabes Ud. / él / ella ve sabe PLURAL FORMS nosotros/as vemos sabemos Uds. / ellos / ellas ven saben

  14. In conclusion… • The –go verbs have an irregular yo form: conozco, hago, pongo, salgo, sé, tengo, traigo, vengo • The other forms are regular according to their conjugations. For example, traigo, traes, trae, traemos, traen • Tener & venir are stem-changing verbs and also change in the tú, él, and ellos forms: tienes, tiene, tienen; vienes, viene, vienen

  17.
