  3. http://www.religion.ucsb.edu/faculty/thomas/classes/rgst80a/lectures/lec14.htmlCulturally, the Hellenistic age helped to spread the Greek language, literature, and education. Literacy was first and foremost in the rise of schooling. Hellenistic scholars made advances in the natural sciences. This led to the cults as we know them are not what we once thought. Religion was thought of as a way to follow and trust a being or thought. Cults were groups following an ethical issue, by dress or behavior. In the mystery religions one was supposed to be devoted to a g-d as they write.

Atheism and agnosticism were part of superstitious beliefs. Mysticism and astrology were very big in the thinking of so many who did not know what to believe.

  6. http://www.mysterium.com/cultural.htmlThe "Hellenistic" age began with Alexander the Great in the late fourth century B.C.E. but was a continuation of Roman beliefs. It was largely a conversion of Christianity.Alexander the Great helped to make diversification almost extinct. The Mediterranean and Near East were consolidated into an imperial order. Greeks were forming a paganism so that all were exactly that “all”. Not one god, not one belief, just unification. The Greeks thought that religion was a ritual and/or code for moral behavior. They also wanted to indulge in things that were not seen but felt. How does this fit with emotion? I don’t know. From Facebook
