  1. Elijah 1. Action Man arrives

  2. Elijah: the background Saul David Solomon Rehoboam Jeroboam (Judah/Jerusalem) (10 northern tribes)

  3. Elijah: the background (1 Ki 12:27f) If these people go up to offer sacrifices at the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem, they will again give their allegiance to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah. They will kill me and return to King Rehoboam." After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt."

  4. Elijah: the background (1 Ki 16:30-32) Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the LORD than any of those before him. He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria.

  5. Elijah: the background (1 Ki 21:25-26) (There was never a man like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by Jezebel his wife. He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the LORD drove out before Israel.)

  6. Elijah: enter action man "As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word."... Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: "Leave here..."

  7. Elijah: what made him God’s man? 1. He knew God’s character (Deut 11:16-17) 2. He was an ordinary man (James 5:17) 3. He prayed (James 5:18) 4. He was willing to be the answer. Don’t just stand there, pray something!
