  5. Put It on the Table • Think of an object that holds a special place in your heart. • When you look at or use this object, what does it make you think of? • How does this object affect each of your five senses?

  6. Design notebook • Think of an experience you’ve had. • What was the design of it? • Elements Principles • Line Balance • Shape Gradation • Direction Repetition • Size Contrast • Texture Harmony • Color Dominance • Value Unity

  8. Play Photo Finish • View the pictures from the Latino Gallery. • Create an Evernote note titled Pink Warm ups. • Create a short, short story from the photo and type it in the evernote note.

  9. Riff on Opening Lines • Pull a card from the Opening Line basket • Write a five line story using that as the opening line.

  10. Who Are These People • Choose two pictures from the Who Are These People basket • Create a short, short story about these people.

  11. Write a Mini Saga (50 words long) Write a story that is 50 words long and no more that has a clear beginning, middle, and end.

  12. StoryCorps • Choose someone you would like to interview. • Create five questions you would like to ask that someone.

  14. Metaphor Log • Write five metaphors.

  15. Listen to Great Symphonies • Go to Live Binder • Click on Warm up tab • Click on symphonies • Listen for 5 minutes • Record three emotions that the music invokes in you

  16. Draw • In five minutes, create a self portrait.

  17. Follow the Links • Choose a word or topic you find interesting. • Type it into a search engine. (Try to search for something other than what you usually search for,) • Select a link. Repeat this step 5 times. • Answer the following questions: What did you encounter because of your casual detours that you might otherwise not have found? What patterns or themes emerged? What unusual connections between seemingly unrelated thinking di you accidentally discover.

  18. Brainstorm • Brainstorm the answer to this question using the rules below – “Who Are You?” • Go for quantity • Encourage wild ideas • Be visual • Defer judgment

  21. Don’t Outsource Your Empathy • Choose an upcoming holiday. • Create your own card for someone you care about.

  22. “Whose Life” • Dump the “Whose Life” bag on the floor in the middle of the classroom. • Answer this question: • What sort of life – personal, professional, emothional – does that person live?

  25. Laughter Club • Stand in the center of class. • Face a partner. • Begin to laugh until it builds naturally.

  28. Dissect a Joke • Choose a joke from the joke basket. • Read the joke • Answer the following questions • If made you laugh or chuckle, why? • If yes, was it the ambituity of a phrase? • Was it the sound of a word? • If no, why not?

  29. Visit the playground • With a partner, choose one of the old table games. • Play the game • Reflect on how it made you feel.

  31. Say Thanks • Think of a person in your life who has been generous to you but to whom you’ve never properly thanked. • Write a detailed “gratitude letter” to that person.

  32. But Out • Make a list of some of the important changes you’d like to make and what’s keeping you from realizing them. (i.e. I’d like to read more, but I rarely have time when I can sit down with a book.) • Now go back to each item and replace the word but with the word and.

  33. Visit a Labyrinth • Place a paper labyrinth on your desk • Trace your finger through the labyrinth several times. • Reflect on how it made you feel.

  34. Check Your Time • Make a short list of what is important to you – people, activities, and values. • Hypothesize how much time you spend with or on the items on this list. • Reflect on how you feel about this activity.

  35. Picture Yourself at Ninety • Picture yourself at ninety • What does your life look like? • What have you accomplished? • What have you contributed? • What are you regrets?
