Objective: To learn and emphasis schoolwide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Essential Question: How do we shape behaviors we expect our students to model? Agenda: -What is PBIS? -How to implement PBIS?

Why are we doing something different? “If a child doesn’t know how to read, we teach.” “If a child doesn’t know how to swim, we teach.” “If a child doesn’t know how to multiply, we teach.” “If a child doesn’t know how to drive, we teach.” “If a child doesn’t know how to behave, we… …teach? …punish?” (Herner, 1998)

What is Positive Behavior Interventions System (PBIS)? • This is a data driven program-monthly analysis • PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. • PBIS focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. • It is a SCHOOL-WIDE design for discipline. • It is team-based systematic planning. • It is for (and by) ALL students, ALL staff, and in ALL settings. • It is a program that can be upgraded as we go along. • We will survey the staff, students, and parents for upgrades.

  8. Expectations: Classroom Hallway Cafeteria Restroom Recess Assemblies Dismissal Buses The following expectations are posted around the school. The PBIS team has created lesson plans for your convenience to help explain these procedures to your students. Each lesson plan should take 15-20 minutes. Please have the students model the behaviors and practice! CONSISTENCY is key and is necessary across grade levels!
