  2. What are Guided Notes • Guided Notes are teacher prepared handouts that map or outline a lecture but leave blank spaces for key points and concepts that the student fills in Note: the (for definition)

  3. What did we just learn … There IS no right answer It depends on your goals and objectives (i.e. what you want to emphasize) for the lecture … blank spaces can be both a key point or concept … depending on context, the instructor ….

Positive Outcomes Include: • Better note taking by students • Students more engaged in lecture • Guidance/support for note-taking • Support active listening • Student might ask more questions • Study guide/advanced organizer • Lectures remain focused/on topic • Prioritize and limit lecture content • Easily convert to exam questions • Students like it AND it works 10 Reasons Why

Creating Guided Notes • Look at lecture materials/outlines/notes • What do you want to emphasize? • Identify the primary key points students should learn/know • Select what you want to leave out • Delete key facts, concepts, points • Insert symbolic cues • Use projected slides • Leave ample writing space for students • Keep it short: single words or phrases • Enhance with visuals, websites, practice problems • Put in ANGEL before class (a preference)
