  2. What is Title I? • Title I is a federal assistance program for schools. Title I resources are used to help students, teachers and parents support student achievement. Penderlea is identified as a “Schoolwide Title I School”. This means all students and staff qualify for Title I resources.

As a Parent in a Title I School You have Rights… • You have the right to • SEE PROGRESS REPORTS ON YOUR CHILD AND THE SCHOOL • REQUEST INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S TEACHERS’ QUALIFICATIONS • OFFER SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT BY SERVING ON THE PARENT ADVISORY BOARD, THE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM, AND/OR COMPLETING SURVEYS AS WELL AS CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMPACT AND PARENT INVOLVEMENT PLANNING

  5. You are IMPORTANT: • We want your participation! It helps when you: • Attend school events • Talk about homework with your child • Show how schoolwork is connected to your life • Make appointments to observe, volunteer, and/or assist in the classroom or school • Attend parent trainings – your school receives funds for this!

How Does Title I Help Your School? • Provides additional teachers • Provides money for intervention programs • Provides money for supplies and materials, including computers and computer software • Provides opportunities for parents to be partners with the school in helping children do their best • Provides opportunities for teacher training

  7. How does Penderlea spend their Title I Money? • Personnel ($138,000) • 2 full time teachers • 1 full time teacher assistant • Parental Involvement ($2,200) • Instructional Supplies/Technology ($23,500) • Total Allotment, Approximately $163,700,

  8. Penderlea is a focus school Penderlea has been identified by the NC Department of Public Instruction as a Focus School.

  9. What does this mean? Penderlea had a gap for 3 years between its highest performing subgroup and its lowest performing subgroup. This gap was larger than the state average

  10. What is Penderlea going to do to exit the Focus School identification? • Penderlea has a Math Interventionist – Mrs. Labor • There will be a 25% Literacy Interventionist • New Exceptional Children’s Teacher (we now have 3) • Review of systematic problem solving model (RTI) • Penderlea teachers will participate in a Professional Learning Community training
