  1. Important Tips to Protect Your Child’s Teeth from Sugar Damage

  2. Protect Your Child’s Teeth from Sugar Damage • Children naturally love sweets. You don’t want to keep them from indulging in occasional treats, so moderating or setting limits is important. • Candies and other sugary treats aren’t the only types of food that can potentially damage the teeth, but for children, they’re the likely culprits.

  3. Here are some Important Tips to Help You Protect Your Child’s Teeth from Sugar Damage:

  4. Plan Meals • This may not always be feasible for busy households with several children. • But do try your best to plan meals so you can include vegetables in your recipes. Children are usually picky eaters, so you’ll most likely need to be creative in preparing and presenting your meals. • If you’re going out, pack in other snacks aside from sweets. Skip sweets too for midnight snacks or snacks before bedtime.

  5. Drink Plenty of Water • If your child is already indulging in sweets, try to balance by giving them plain water. • Not all kids are fond of drinking water, so practice and patience are crucial. Water is the best beverage for the teeth as it contains no sugar, leaves no residue, and helps remove debris from the mouth. • Water also helps keep the mouth moist, which is important in keeping the breath fresh and restoring minerals the teeth are losing.

  6. Trade Some Sweets • It’s impossible to remove sweets from a child’s diet. • So try to trade some of their sweets with tooth-friendly alternatives, such as cheese, apples, and carrots. We hear you. It’s easier said than done. • Still, keep trying. Introduce healthy snacks along with their favorite treats and never force them to eat or empty their plates.

  7. Brush Before Sleeping • The mouth produces less saliva during sleep. Be sure to have your child brush their teeth before sleeping to get rid of harmful deposits. • Starchy and sugary food combine with bacteria and produce acids that erode the enamel. • You can slow down or prevent this process by keeping the mouth clean.

  8. Keeping kids away from sweets is almost impossible. You also don’t want to deprive them. But it’s crucial to look after their dental health. • Plan meals, limit sweets, brush teeth and increase water intake. • Establishing good dental care habits early on shall protect their teeth against sugar damage and help them maintain a healthy smile for a long time.
