  2. St. John the Baptist was humble & holy • He “prepared the way” for Jesus’ coming • St. John preached: “repent& confess” • He BAPTIZED many people

  3. St. John said: • “I indeed baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is better than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the HOLY SPIRIT and FIRE”

  4. Jesus came to be baptized! • “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” • “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness”

  5. After our Lord came up from the water … • The heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove& fire • Avoicespokefrom heaven … • “This is my beloved SON, in whom I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22)

  6. This Feast is called … • EPIPHANY • The manifestation of God to mankind

  7. Did you notice the HOLY TRINITY? • Who was baptized? • Who descended on the Son? • Who spoke? • … God the SON • … The HOLY SPIRIT • like a dove & fire • … God the FATHER The HOLY SPIRIT God the FATHER God the SON

  8. That’s why you were dipped 3 times at baptism: • In the name of the … FATHER • SON • HOLY SPIRIT

  9. WHATdid the people do to turn away from sins? • They had to repent & confess • They had to be baptized

  10. 2) DID the Lord need to be baptized? • No, He is God & sinless

  11. 3) WHY did He let St. John baptize Him? • Our Lord wants to show us by example the importance of Baptism • Our Lord was taking our sins on Himself to wash them away

  12. 4) HOWimportant is Baptism? • Our sins are washed away (white & pure) • We become children of God • The Holy Spirit dwells in us (to help, guide, comfort, enlighten …)

  13. 5) DO we still need to repent & confess after baptism? • Yes, we have to always repent & confess • To cleanse ourselves again from sins
