General Licensing Principles for VDI

License the client for Windows and Office

License for server access

License for any required management technologies

Windows vda
Windows VDA

  • Required for all non-SA devices inside the corporate network

  • Required for any device outside the corporate network where the user is not the nominated primary user of device licensed inside the corporate network

  • A subscription licence tied to the term of the VL agreement it’s purchased through

  • Not available through the Open program

  • Counts towards the enterprise-widecommitment in an Enterprise Agreement

  • Licenses Windows 7 for use in avirtual OSE only on the licenseddevice

For devices licensed with Windows and active Software Assurance or Windows VDA, you may remotely access up to four instances of the software running in virtual OSEs on your servers in your datacenter from the licensed device.”

      • Covered by Windows Software Assurance

      • Non-SA devices (BYOD, iPad, Android slates etc)

    • From outside the corporate network?

      • All others

  • Whose Broker and Hypervisor will you use?

    • Others

  • Will you be using an Remote Desktop Services feature?

    • Broker, RemoteFX, RDS protocol, RDS server
