  3. Medical clearance • Needed for Federation contracted delegates • Valid for 6 months for a new contract • Reimbursed by Federation • Copy for approval to Health Officer in HR Country specific information: www.internationalsos.com Code: 22AMMS000091 IFRC

Vaccinations • Tetanus + Diphtheria 10yrs • Polio 10yrs • Yellow Fever 10yrs (for Africa) • Hepatitis A and B 15yrs • Typhoid 3yrs Measles lifelong Meningitis 3yrs Cholera 6 months Japanese B Encephalitis 1-3yrs Seasonal Human Influenza • Strongly recommended vaccinations for all countries Always keep a copy of vaccination records at home in case your vaccination card gets lost. IFRC

  5. Where to be vaccinated in GVA • HUG Hospital Cantonal • Open: Mo, We and Fri 12.30.-15.30. Thu 16.00.-18.30. • No need for making an appointment • Pay yourself and get reimbursed by insurance IFRC

  6. Malaria • Check the current situation of the country • Prophylaxis: Doxycycline 100mg Lariam Malarone Costs reimbursed by the contracting part • Remember repellent and coils and other prophylaxis • Mosquito dome recommended, mosquito net second option • Medication for treatment and self-test important IFRC

  7. Personal Medical Kit • For basic health and first aid Item Guideline for quantity Dressing plaster 1 box of 20-30 pieces Erythromycin 250 mg tablet 1 box (1 full course: 40 tablets) Paracetamol 500 mg tablet 1 box (approx. 30 tablets) Desinfection swabs 10 pieces (minimum) Hydroclonazone (water purification tablets) 1 box (150 tablets) Betamethasone Valerate cream 1 tube (20g) Clotrimazole BP 1% cream 1 tube (20g) Clemastine 1 mg tablet (antihistamine) 1 box (approx. 60 tablets) Magnesium hydroxide 400 mg 1 box (approx. 40 tablets) Loperamide 2 mg capsule (diarrhoea) 1 box (approx. 20-30 capsules) Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) 10 sachets for 1 litre solution Thermometer 1 Talcum powder Condoms IFRC

  8. Mental Wellbeing and Stress • Read: “Managing stress in the field” • Take care of your team – you are a member of it • What is your survival strategy? • We have two stress counselors in Geneva whom you can contact (CONFIDENTIAL) by email, skype or phone IFRC

  9. Insurance and reimbursement • Know your insurance and assistance company • Vaccinations reimbursed by the contracting part: Federation or your NS (sometimes even by insurance) IFRC

  10. Medical Evacuation Plan • Latest version on the file server and FedNet • Follow the SOP • Always keep your passport, visa and insurance card with you, or copies • Give the admin a copy of your passport and visa • If in doubt – send them out! IFRC

  11. Consultants and PNS delegates • Own arrangements for medical clearance, vaccinations and insurance • Assistance given if asked • Cover their own costs IFRC
