  3. What is the choice of our prototype? Prototype Option: Due to time constraints and individual skills capabilities, the prototype option that our team has selected is the “partially operational appearance prototype”.

  4. Is the choice of our prototype justifiable? • We believe the choice of the prototypes worked well for us. Although it might not be a fully completed functional prototype, but it provided a good base for us to gauge how it will engage with our projected user.

  5. Is the prototype functional on its software side? What software is involved? • The softwares involved in our project are Phipget, Maxmsp and a hardware package (barcode reader) • Our choice of using Phipget and Maxmsp because they were readily available Are there any technical obstacles? • The technical obstacles that will be a challenge is having all the software link and working together. • We still are trying to find a way to make the card swiper work with the other parts of the prototype.

  6. Is the prototype functional on its hardware side? What hardware is involved? • Our project construction material mainly revolves with plastic. • The hardwares involved in our project are harden black card board, plastic bin, corrugated plastic, and etc. Are there any technical obstacles? • The technical obstacles that we will be facing is incorporating the LCD screen (not having the perfect shape and size)

  7. Is the prototype integrated properly? • The software incorporated so far are MaxMXP and Phidget, the only part of the prototype that’s not functional at the moment is the ID scanning part.

  8. Remote Bottle System (RBS) descriptions • The goal we wanted to achieve with our prototype were supporting and educating school faculties and individual members working toward the common goals of waste reduction and recycling. • RBS was to promote the idea of sustainable living, providing the highest benefit and promptly convenience to the people. • RBS was developed to encourage people to return their bottles by making it more convenient to reclaim their deposits with out the need to save up their bottles for a long trip to a far away bottle depot. • RBS system was to design to give the users a fast and an efficient way of collecting credits; the system and interface was developed with direct user feedback, and in the field testing.

  9. Representative Tasks: • Firstly the user will find the nearest RBS on the campus and they will take out their student card and insert it to the slot. • They will wait for the green light indication to proceed with depositing the bottle. • After the bottle is scanned, the green light will turn on indicating that the bottle is approved. • The account balance is automatically updated. • The user can choose either to continue depositing the bottles or finish their transaction and they card will be returned to them.

  10. Procedure (List of actions)

  11. RBS users Who our users? • Our users are faculty stuff members, students and may expanded possible offices stuff members • Our focus target group is the students from secondary high school to post-secondary school. What kind of experience and knowledge needed for the users? • Has previous experience with Scan cards • Understands the concept of recycling • Willing to walk extra steps to recycle bottles. • Experience of using electronics like cell phone, iPod, camera, and scanner • Has previous experiences of using a recycling bin or has been to a recycling depot/outlet. • Able to read in English

  12. Cognitive Walkthrough the System
