  2. What is Title 1? • Title I is the federal program that provides funding to local school districts to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students. It is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act first passed in 1965.

How does Title 1 Funds Improve Academic Achievement? • Teacher preparation and training • Enhancements to the curriculum • Using high quality instructional materials • Work to close the achievement gap between high and low performing children. • Identify and target resources to make academic differences • Provide an enrichment programs for students. • Work to incorporate school-wide programs that increase the amount of quality instructional time. • Provide substantial professional development opportunities for staff. • Work with service providers to help improve overall well-being of students. • Provide parental involvement opportunities to all parents.

  5. How are Funds Allocated? • Literacy Coaches • Computer Lab Teachers • Additional Classroom Teachers • Classroom Tutors • Mental Health Providers • New Technology • Professional Developments • Parental Involvement Activities • Instructional Materials and Supplies

  6. Literacy Coach A reading specialist who focuses on providing professional development for teachers by providing them with the additional support needed to implement various instructional programs and practices.

  7. Computer Lab Teacher Teach basic to advanced computer applications. They cover lessons from simple keyboarding to challenging computer programming. They install, update, customize and protect computer networks.

  8. Tutors Tutoring is the process of getting students to become independent learners. Tutoring help students develop self-confidence and improve study skills. Tutoring session provide students with an opportunity to ask questions and practice skills sometimes missed in a regular classroom situation. Tutoring provides the practice and drill in specific course material needed by the student, while giving the tutor valuable review opportunities and the chance to develop and sharpen educational and communication skills.

  9. Mental Health Provider School Mental Health professionals support positive student connections with peers, family, school and community to facilitate student development. They also facilitate the ability to successfully deal with problems, crises, or traumatic experiences. Furthermore, School Mental Health professionals foster resiliency - the ability to bounce back from challenges with a stronger sense of self-confidence and coping capacity - by promoting healthy relationships, self-reflection, and problem-solving skills to optimize school success.
