EXISTING “OLD” SOLUTIONSDesalinationof sea water Negative points - Sea water is deep in most islands and wind turbines can be placed on ridges, which requires construction of roads and electricity lines, and introduce disturbances to people. PRODUCTION COST. The process is very energy consuming and if the energy is not produced from RES cause major environmental impact. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT From water intakes (if near the coast), from the chemical treatment of sea water and from the discharge of highly concentrated salt brines that also contain otherchemical pollutants.
