History • 1909: SPORTS: Baseball great Honus Wagner orders American Tobacco Company take his picture off their "Sweet Caporal" cigarette packs, fearing they would lead children to smoke. • The shortage makes the Honus Wagner card the most valuable of all time, worth close to $500,000. • 1912: SINKING OF THE TITANIC Men in tuxedos are observed smoking cigarettes as they await their fate. • 1922: REGULATION: 15 states have banned the sale, manufacture, possession, advertising and/or use of cigarettes.   4. Who Designed It? • Each tobacco company is the designer of their own ads • In early ads artist were hired to paint or sketch the ads • As times progressed the ads were sent to printing companies for mass production

  5. What Meaning Did it Create • Created a stereotype that women had to smoke to fit in • Lack of understanding health risks put peoples lives at risk • Showed the youth that it was ok for their parents to harm themselves • Showed that tobacco is an addictive drug
